It is in the second chakra, Svadhisthana, that our original unity becomes duality. We go from earth to water; solid becomes liquid, stillness becomes movement, form becomes formless. Where the first chakra attempts to hold on and build a foundation, the second's mission is to let go and create flow. Our perception of self now incorporates an awareness of the other. When we connect with another, desire arises, and with it, our emotions and sexuality. We long to unite, to overcome our separateness, to reach out and grow.

This chakra relates to our primary and continued attachment to others, starting with the vital maternal and paternal chakras cord, to the mother and the father, from where we get our human needs met through meaningful and emotional relationships. Emotions flow within these cords, connecting us to both healthy and unhealthy people alike.

As the human body has a natural urge to move toward pleasure and away from pain, here also rests the etheric support for our addictions and our repeating relationship patterns. Pleasure and sensation are fundamental characteristics of this chakra.

When working with the sacral chakra, we address our relationships with others and ourselves. Learning how to cultivate a healthy relationship with pleasure instead of beware of it, obtaining insight into our default responses and emotions, and learning to express ourselves set boundaries with others.

When the second chakra is out of alignment, you may face low back pain, ovarian cysts, and reproductive problems, urinary infections, infertility, pain during sex, complications with the bladder and kidneys, and other pelvic–lower abdominal issues. Mentally, blocked sacral energy can be connected with dependence, repressed sentiments, and absence of creative energy.

When it is in alignment, you will be capable to source energy for creativity, movement, reproduction, desire, pleasure, and relationships.

You can continue your journey through the chakras, with this practice focused on the Svadhisthana Chakra:
